Third baseman Scott Rolen cracked 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI as the Detroit Iron
Gloves outscored the Caracas Leones in 10 innings 8 to 5.
The score was tied at 5 after nine. Detroit came out on top in the 10th
inning. Jim Edmonds led off and keyed the rally when he drew a walk. Miguel
Tejada next to the plate and he drew a walk. Rolen then rifled a three-run
blast (his 20th of the season). Detroit and Caracas each finished the
afternoon with 9 hits.
Francisco Rodriguez(4-1) picked up the victory, allowing 1 run in 1 and 1/3
innings. The losing pitcher was Tim Harikkala(4-2) in relief. 'It's almost
like the ball was trying to hit my bat,' Rolen said. 'Whenever I would swing,
the ball found the sweet spot.'
